I've Done it

Remember those fabrics that Gemma picked out for me. Well I've done something with them.
I didn't use one of the fabrics but that was allowed. I also added another two fabrics, a pale lilac batik and a hand dyed looking blue/green.
Anyway here's what I've come up with. Remember we couldn't plan the quilt or use any form of pattern.

I've still got to bind it, but other than that it's finished.

Basically I cut out a sheet of Bondaweb and ironed it to some Muslin and then free cut, with scissors, strips of the fabrics. I then wove them together. The large strip that runs down the centre ( just) hides all the rough edges. I wasn't sure how to use the grey fabrics with the skiing penguins and then I thought that if I cut some out they could ski down the centre strip. I then ironed everything in place to fix it.
I then FMQ'd all over with a variegated thread making sure I caught all the woven fabric edges two or three times.

I've also finished my swap blocks for this month. They were all been mailed out on Monday.

Finally my Challenge Block for the Quilts On Review group. I'm late with this, but in my defense I only received the package late yesterday. The photo has to be posted by tomorrow.

I received the green and the floral fabrics, the trim and the button. The Challenge was to make a 6.5" block using all of the package, plus whatever else you wanted. I decided to applique a Labrador with a ball ( or button in this case) at his feet. It was going to be black but it looked to harsh, so I did a Goldie instead.
Right that's the sewing for the week so far. There'll be alot more done this week. The weather is awful, again. Apparently we're going to have a month's worth of rain today so there's going to be some bad flooding around. The local rivers are already extremely full so it won't be long before they burst. It doesn't look like there's going to be a let up for at least a week so there's nothing much else I can do except sew, and bail out the pond every so often.

What a great job you did with Gemma's fabric - it's lovely (and you ARE super mom for getting it done so fast!!!). And I like the Goldie - how pretty! Stay dry - we too are getting pounded here in Ohio (1" of rain in 45 min. last night - UGH).
